WOOD WARBLER
This little beauty is 110 to 125mm long, with both sexes having the same plumage. The top of the head and the rest of the upperparts are olive green. The face and the sides of the breast are lemon-yellow. They have a dark eyestripe, which has a hook shape at the back. The breast, belly and underparts are pure white.
This warbler favours woodland, mostly deciduous but can be seen in mixed woodland. They prefer their woods to have minimal undergrowth, although, that is where they like to nest. The nest is dome shaped and will have 6 to 7 eggs laid in May. If there are plenty of insects available, then a second brood is not uncommon. Due to the nest being low down and easy to access, they are heavily predated by the beech marten and the pine marten.
