Blue-eyed hawkers prefer still, overgrown waters. After copulation, the male stays connected with the female for egg laying. This is known as being in tandem. The eggs are laid into vegetation. Once hatched, the larval stage lasts 2 years. The adults emerge in May and are on the wing until September. The males prefer to patrol their territories low down, almost skimming the water.
