AZURE BLUET
This is a beautiful little damselfly, attaining a length of 33 to 35mm. The male is pale blue with bands of black along its body. The second segment of the abdomen, just behind the thorax, is blue, with a “U” shaped black mark. The females are green with the same black markings. Just the one photo so far but hopefully that will improve.
This damselfly can be found around most water bodies and can also be found in grassland and open woodland. The adults can usually be seen on the wing from May to September. They can frequently be seen mating and laying eggs, but they rarely fly over large bodies of water, unlike other blues. The nymphs, which live amongst submerged vegetation, are green in colour, and develop into adults in 1 year.
